Boeuf Bourguignon

Last week my Colorado Cousins came to visit!  One of my cousins is thinking of attending 

and came for a campus tour.  We had so much fun!  Since Colorado and MS are not necessarily    geographically close, I don't get to see them that often.  Actually the last time I saw them was at my wedding!!  

My younger cousin really enjoys cooking, and as you all know...so do I!  She and I decided we would attempt one of Julia Child's recipes.  So we obviously choose  to make boeuf bourguignon.  This was my first Julia Child's recipe to try, and let me tell you it was rather labor intensive!  We started around noon and it was ready about 7!  The recipe was extremely detailed.  Julia even told us what kind of spoon and casserole dish to use!  Much to our surprise, it actually turned out to be pretty good.  It's definitely not something that I would cook on a regular basis, but I would make it again (maybe a year from now).  

Anyway, my hat goes off to Julie Powell.  Whoever could cook their way through that cookbook has my utmost respect.  It certainly could not have been easy!  

I realize this may be shocking to some, but I did not cook one single thing from Pioneer Woman's cookbook the entire time they were here!

Sure hope the cuz comes to MSU!!

The Volunteering Stage

I feel like most women go through a stage in life entitled "Volunteering."  It happens shortly after marriage and before children.  We go slightly insane and think  we need to volunteer for everything! On top of volunteering we also try to be Super Woman - making sure our house is sparkling clean, laundry is always done, and gourmet meals are always prepared! I can honestly say that I have entered the volunteering stage, and it is exhausting (but... I kind of love it)!  I think this is partly due to the fact that the husband studies all the time, and I don't like being alone. So I try to stay as busy as humanly possible.

Have I mentioned that I seriously hate being alone?  I mean I will not even go out to eat by myself (even to McDonald's).  I once tried eating out alone, and I ended up having a pity party for myself instead.  So now I'm a drive-through, eat in my car, kind of gal.  I realize I'm still alone in my car, but at least people aren't looking at me thinking "that poor girl has to eat by herself, she must not have any friends...sigh," because I'm sure that is what they are thinking ;-)

So getting back to the volunteering stage, did I mention that it was exhausting? Did I mention that I kind of love it?  It is a love/hate relationship.  However, since I'm a huge advocate for Bunburying the volunteering stage is my perfect getaway!  It is a great way for me to excuse myself from my day-to-day monotony and throw a little change into the mix.
