Baby Shower

This weekend our Sunday school class hosted a baby shower for our first Sunday school baby!  We are in the newlyweds class so none of us have children yet.  As you all know, I love party planning!  As soon as Carley made her big announcement, I started planning.  The shower was so fun, and we had so much fun getting everything ready for the day.

We had the shower in the Chapel parlor of our church.  

Of course we had a diaper cake.  Thanks to Morgan we had pretty bows to go on the diaper cake.  She was our resident bow maker.

For a hostess gift we made this clothes line.  We actually had a lot more to go on the clothes line but we rant out of room.  We quickly improvised and filled a basket full of the remaining goodies.

Carley got so many beautiful things!  

I made the cupcakes for the shower.  I was so proud that I successfully made the cupcakes without having a melt down!  I think the Husband was very thankful too.

A Word from Wheeler

Hello Blog land!  It's me, Wheeler.  Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on what I've been up to lately. First off I have been exiled to the outside during the day.  I ate my mom's purse and a couple of throw pillows and now I have been permanently grounded.  So not fair.

Anyway, I spend my days in the backyard now, which I'm growing a custom to, and I spend the nights inside with the parents.  Oh, and my parents totally think I sleep on my bed at night but really I just wait until they are asleep, and then I jump in their bed.

My dad and I have been spending some extra time together at the pond.  We've been working on getting ready for my first hunting season!  I've got this retrieving thing down pat.  I went dove hunting a few months ago and kicked retrieving butt.  Then  a few weeks ago I attended my second hunt test and received my first started pass.  Check out my ribbon!

MSU

Prepare to be shocked.  I actually stayed through an entire football game - twice!  That's right I stayed at the UAB and Kentucky games all the way until the end of the game, and I didn't even complain or ask to go home!  I'm very proud.  I stayed for the entire game for a few reasons:

1) I wasn't sitting in the student section
2) No one poured alcohol on me
3) I could actually sit down
4) I was able to sit with friends who kept me entertained during the "boring" parts of football

The best part about the UAB game (besides winning) was that a football player proposed at the end of the game!  At the very end of the game the whole team ran to the middle of the field and then the player got down on one knee and popped the question.  Of course she said yes, and of course we were able to get a good view of the entire thing on our XXL Jumbotron!

Ashley came and spent the weekend with us, and we all went to the Kentucky game.

The husband and I sat together, and we sat in the upper deck student section.  The calmer older students sit up there to avoid those rowdy college kids :)  We ended up sitting with Morgan and Andrew and had a great time.  Morgan and I did some serious people watching and watched a couple of people get escorted out by security - always exciting!  And MSU WON!  We are now 7-2, and for all my Alabama friends out there, I would just like to remind you that MSU and UA have the same record...

Cake Decorating

For the past 5 weeks I have been taking a cake decorating class.  The class is over now, but I had so much fun! After Sister and I struggled making H's b'day cake, I really wanted to learn the basics of cake decorating.  A few weeks after H's party I received an email from MSU's personnel enrichment program advertising a class for beginner cake decorating - it was meant to be!  My friends Mary and Elizabeth took the class with me.  I wish I had taken more pictures of my cakes, but here are a couple.

I never thought that I could actually get tired of cake, but I am!  I had to bake a cake every week and then we would practice on it at class.  I would bring home a decorated cake every Tuesday night for us to eat on during the week.  I don't want any cake for a long time!

Pumpkin Carving

As usual I'm a little behind on blogging.

A few weeks ago we had some friends over for a little pumpkin carvin' get-together.  We made chili, roasted pumpkin seeds, and I made an ugly pumpkin roll (the pumpkin roll tasted much better than it looked, just didn't get it rolled tight enough).   We had a really great time and it was so fun/funny to see everyone carve their pumpkins!

First up we have Nate and Meredith's pumpkins.  Meredith shocked us all with her mad pumpkin carvin' skills.  She tried to play like she didn't know what she was doing, but she totally did!  Her pumpkin turned out so cute, and she paid tribute MSU.  Hmm, do you think Nate likes to deer hunt much??

Morgan and Andrew did an excellent job!  Morgan was very ambitious with her owl pumpkin.  I think there are a few strategically placed toothpicks holding her owls in place :) Andrew's pumpkin is very happy!

Next we have Kate and Josh. They combined their efforts to carve an amazing dragon pumpkin.  Check out that detail!

Lauren wins the most ambitious award!  She carved the word FALL (written in cursive) with some swirly things around the word in her pumpkin.  Joe just stood back and offered words of encouragement.

As for The Husband and I...he made a scary face and I made a happy face.  I will have to admit this was my first solo pumpkin carving, and I was going for something easy!
